The Great Viking Appliances Repair Service in Snohomish
Snohomish is a city in the United States of America's Snohomish County. At the time of the 2010 census, the population was 9,098. It's southeast of Everett and northwest of Monroe, on the Snohomish River. Snohomish is situated at the crossroads of US Route 2 and State Route 9. Harvey Airfield, the city's airfield, is located south of downtown and is largely utilized for general aviation.
Cadyville, named for pioneer immigrant E. F. Cady was founded in 1859 and renamed Snohomish in 1871. From 1861 to 1897, it was the county seat of Snohomish County, until the county administration was moved to Everett. Snohomish's downtown section, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, is known for its variety of antique shops.
The Snohomish people, a Coast Salish tribe that lived between Port Gardner Bay and modern-day Monroe, were the first to settle in the Snohomish River Valley. Near the junction of the Snohomish and Pilchuck Rivers, archaeologists discovered evidence of human settlement dating back to 8,000 years ago. In the early nineteenth century, the Snohomish first contacted European explorers, and their name was documented as "Sinnahamis" by John Work of the Hudson's Bay Company, who was one of the first to use the term to designate the river. The Snohomish signed the Point Elliott Treaty in 1855, which led to the tribe's relocation to the Tulalip Indian Reservation. The territorial government planned to build a military route connecting Fort Steilacoom and Fort Bellingham in the early 1850s, with a ferry crossing of the Snohomish River at Kwehtlamanish, a Snohomish winter village. The road, which was envisioned in the aftermath of the Pig War, was supposed to be built far enough inland to avoid British naval raids.
Several American immigrants from Steilacoom who arrived in 1859 to submit homestead claims sought the confluence of the Snohomish and Pilchuck rivers near Kwehtlamanish. Egbert H. Tucker submitted a claim for a plot on the other side of the Snohomish River, while Edson F. Cady and Heil Barnes, representing carpenter Emory C. Ferguson, settled near the projected ferry terminal. The town was previously called as "Cadyville," but in 1871 it was renamed Snohomish City. Snohomish is derived from the name of the prominent local Native American tribe, "sdoh-doh-hohbsh" ([sduhb]), the meaning of which is debated.
The first school in Snohomish was established in 1867 or 1869. Due to the transfer from territory to state, the Village of Snohomish was formed in 1888 and re-incorporated as a city in 1890. Hyrcanus Blackman, who had already served as Police Chief for two years, was chosen mayor. The first graduations from Snohomish High School took place in 1894, and a roller skating rink was built in 1893. Snohomish was a flourishing town in 1899, with a population of 2,000 people, 25 enterprises, and 80 residences.
